Most people do the vast majority of their Christmas shopping at the last minute. If you have had a last minute Christmas shopping experience you will most likely recall visiting a shopping center or the local mall, only to find every single parking lot is completely filled to capacity, with stores packed-to-the-gills with shoppers still searching for that ideal Christmas gift for their friends, relatives and family members. As we get closer and closer to Christmas day, crowds get much more agressive and restless and soon the search for the best Christmas gift, becomes a search for an acceptable gift. You would think that with Christmas falling once a year and with the entire year for people to prepare for this special occasion, most would have most of it done, days before the big day, yet desipte countless News Year’s resolutions that are made every year to get The Christmas shop done early next time, last minute Christmas shopping continues to be popular.
We will now take a look at a few of the different types of last minute Christmas shoppers, primarily those who are late because they procrastinated and those who leave their Christmas shoping to the last minute because they find it exciting to leave their Christmas gift shopping to the very last minute.
There are a number of reasons people become last minute Christmas shoppers. Some have no choice and do it out of necessity (though this is rare). Many people have obligations that requires them to work right up to mid December. College students for instance who live on campus with no access to transportation. When you combine a challenging living situation with the need to spend a great deal of your available time studing hard for your finals, Christmas shopping becomes near impossible to do until the pressure of academic is off. Finals can account for half a students final grade, so they rightly are not placing much thought on the Christmas season until finals are over. They wind up hitting the Christmas shops immediately after their last final, when the crowds are at their most ferocious.
On the other hand, there are other types of last minute Christmas shoppers who are just downright born procrastinators. Sure they might visit stores each weekend in the months of October or November which would be the ideal time to do their Chrismas shops, but instead end up window shopping or buying stuff that they want for themselves. They know the Christmas shopping seasons is approaching fast, but are not compelled to act on this knowledge until the very last minute. Unfortunately this places them in the undesirable position of battling the frantic crowds in the last minute Christmas shopping frenzy.
The third type of last minute Christmas shoppers, leave things to the last minute because they enjoy it that way. Some see it as an increadible challenge, they are aware they are short on time, but that brings them an immense thrill. They thrive under pressure and have the confidence that they will (somehow) be able to get great gifts for everyone on their Christmas shopping list this year. Almost everyone will tell you that last minute Christmas shopping is stressful, but it is often exciting as well. Those who thrive on excitement, often relish the thought of leaving their shopping to the last minute because they derive a sense of energy that they cannot get at any other time of the year.
